Following up on ‘Clicks & Glitches’, the club-proven sound sample specialist Oliver Schmitt aka SOUNDS OF REVOLUTION comes up with the second episode of his new, attractively priced, and versatile useable ‘SOR micro series’. ‘SOR Abstract and Weird Vol.1? as the name suggests concentrates on all sorts of abstract, crazy, and out-of-the-ordinary sounds that often give your production that certain flair or own character, but which aren’t that easy to build without required know-how, appropriate technology, and time.

The samples of this specialized library can be used as accompanying loops, FX or athmo sounds, uplifters, one-shots, and far more. There are no limits to your fantasy and possibilities; your eagerness to experiment might rather be encouraged. All loops are commonly produced on 127 bpm and are available in all popular sampler formats.

Please note: Some sounds used in the demo are taken from other free SOR sample collections also included in the sample pack.

SOR Abstract & Weird Vol 1 by Resonance Sound gives you that other world sound. Most us a producer take our time to search the land for the different sounds. Well search no more! This is the sound pack you need to be weird. Enough said… Enjoy! Rating: 10/10

Despite the name, Abstract & Weird’s 200 rhythmic loops aren’t a total break from SOR’s club-friendly vibe. It’s all about ring-modulated percussion and heavily processed FX, and none of it would sound out of place in the Beatport tech house Top Ten. It’s varied, fresh and inspiring, and just as good for creating memorable drops as it is for layering with more traditional beats. Rating: 8/10

Oliver and his baby ‘Sounds of Revolution’ (SOR) don’t need any introduction – the sample packs are used worldwide in enumerous productions. While waiting for more soundfood, maybe successors of ‘Club Revolution 1’ and others, we came across a new mini series: smaller packages, but just as useful and precious as always: ‘Abstract&Weird’ and ‘Clicks&Glitches’. Interesting. Let’s do this!

The product titles pretty much say what’s inside: you won’t find a huge main loop collection and some standard percussion samples – these sample packs are taking care of the subtile but yet extremely important part of a decent track: they offer everything you need to perfectly fill the sonic gaps in your track plus to add the special touch to make it (even more) unique.

Abstract & Weird is a specialty you might need some experience for. Listen carefully to trance productions of guys like Sean Tyas or explore some harder stuff of the progressive electro genre: there they are, those special sounds, weird, not really percussion, not very obvious, but they all do one thing: making a track unique and groovy. Until now we couldn?t find any similar sample collection to this one, which makes sense: as mentioned before, these kind of samples do need some producer experience and creativity to handle – otherwise they’re just some non-fitting musical elements. You need to work on them, maybe add a huge amount of high quality reverb and others…in other words, once again: you need creativity. If you think you’re ready for that, you might be the happiest person ever with this perfectly handcrafted sample pack. Rating: 10/10

This new sample pack by Sounds-of-Revolution aims to be a good reference library for composers of experimental, IDM and noise music. Abstract and Weird Vol. 1 gives you the necessary ingredients to cook up some “off-kilter” music.

There are 200 24-bit WAV files (198 MB) REX and Apple Loops AIFF supported, as well as sampler patches for EXS24 and Kontakt. So what do you get? All kinds of otherworldly, peculiar and mostly FX-ridden sounds are presented in this library. There are FX, atmospherics, uplifters and all kinds of twisted sounds from the mind of programmer Oliver Schmitt.

I love this library’s superior quality in terms of how the loops were recorded. The spiky and glitchy drum loops are top notch and the best offering. They are specifically designed for flexibility in creating experimental electronica and other electronic sub-genres.
